Fine Arts Provides Opportunities for Students to Grow:
Our goal at New Hampton Middle School is to provide opportunities for students to try new things in a safe environment. Many students are involved in multiple activities such as Choir, Band, Musicals, LEAD, and athletics. Each activities allows students to meet other people, experience different challenges, build leadership skills, and explore life-long passions. We want our students to explore different paths so they know what they like and don't like for future success. Middle School experiences help with the social emotional development of students and build problem solving skills. On March 6th, our New Hampton Bands put on the Parade of Bands celebrating all of the hard work of the bands throughout the year. If you missed it, it was a really neat experiences seeing each group preform and then the combined band of over 200 kids play one song for the first time. We also have the Musical Wipeout being presented to the public on March 15 and 16 at 7pm in the auditorium. Please come and support our students. Below are some pictures from Parade of Bands.
Spotlight of the Week- School Safety:
School shootings continue to be in the news at at the top of everyone's concern. Our district has created a crisis team that is reviewing all of our procedures. Staff had training about our response in case of an intruder in the building. We have also taken more precautions to make sure all of our students are safe. One of the first things you have to do when you enter school is to be buzzed in by the office. This will take more time than normal because we are going to also ask you for your business about entering the school. So we ask you to please be patient.
The second part of our plan has been to reteach students about how to make decisions in the time of crisis. We will provide our students and staff with as much information as possible to make a decision to Run, Hide, or Fight. The teacher will work with students to take the best option in the situation. As a district, we cannot discuss all of our plans with the public to make sure our plan is not compromised. It is important that if this situation were to occur that parents not flock the school and try to use cell phones to try to get in contact with students as this action could impede emergency response to the incident. As soon as possible, we will get in contact with parents about the safety of their children.
