Hackathon/Parade of Bands/J-term at Rotary

Hackthon Begins Fall Registration

As part of our fall registration, 25 students from NHHS joined 75 other students from Charles City, Osage, and RRMR for the Iowa BIG North Hackathon to determine interest in the program for the 2018-19.  Students 8-11 are registering for classes with Ms. Kipp this week and next to work through their required courses as well as any elective they would like to take.

The Hackathon is a "mini-course" in an afternoon of what Iowa BIG North is and how students find their initiatives and pursue their passions. All students in 10th and 11th grade are invited to attend a Hackathon.  There will be another event available on April 5.  Students should contact Dr. Updegraff, Mr. Kuennen, Ms. Kipp or Mrs. Anderson if interested.

Parade of Bands

The annual parade of bands for grades 5-12 was Tuesday night and was a great success!  Not only did jazz bands from all levels who competed last week perform, but there were group pieces where students were able to collaborate with students from different grades and building.  Mr. and Mrs. Adam surround the music for the concert around musicals, movies, and cartoon theme which was a big draw for both kids and parents in attendance.  What a great celebration of the music happening in our district!

J-term at Rotary

Six students were given the opportunity to share their J-term experience with Rotary this week.  Charly Loss, Ann-Sophie Huebler, Noah Fenske, Madison Flick, Madison Kolbet, and Ethan Rosonke were able to talk about their courses, what they gained from the experience and how it connected to their futures.  Rotary members were very receptive and we hope to continue to engage community members to help us make the experience better for all!
